This is a clay and fat lamp, based on a Bronze Age one excavated at the Great Orme Mines, North Wales.


It consists of a small, specially shaped, clay ‘dish’, holding a moss wick.  Animal fat is added as a fuel.  A bark handle makes the lamp mobile.


It makes a very efficient and stable lamp and beautifully illustrates demonstrates a simple but essential technology.


This can be used with the appropriate Health and Safety.

One of the most important pieces of equipment in Prehistory was a sewing kit.  Being unable to repair or make clothes in colder climates could be fatal!


This kit has all the necessary items needed for this: two ‘hand carved’ bone needles, a flint point for cutting and making ‘eyes’ in the needles, animal sinew and retted nettle thread, a leather thimble and a bone awl point for making holes in skin/leather.

A Stone Age Axe

This axehead has been knapped from a piece of granite from the site of the famous Prehistoric stone axe quarry at Graig Llwyd in North Wales.


It has an ash shaft and is fixed onto it with strips of raw hide and a ‘prehistoric glue’ made from bee’s wax, tree resin and charcoal.
